mIRC Script 2
Memo Express v1.61 | |
This script cleanly shows the abilities of mIRC 5.5's dialog box feature. It works as a memoserv secretary and informs you of any new memos you receive. You're given a tidy little dialog where you can view your memos, send a memo and even encrypt a memo. The person receiving encrypted memos needs to be using this script and know your encryption code though. I found the help section very informative, and the setting window is just as easy to use as the rest of the script. If you're use to receiving lots of memos, this script will be very helpful. It's nearly flawless with the only problem being that it saves it's settings to your mIRC directory rather than the script directory. I don't see any reason not to use this script, so all you memoserv users go ahead and grab yourself a copy. | ![]() date added 04/22/99 score 17/20 size 11.1kb downloads 962 |

PervScan v2.01 | |
This is for those of you who are intent on keeping your channel highly moderated. What it does is it allows you to maintain lists of offensive words, nicknames, and channels that you don't want people in your channel to use. When one of these words are used in any of these unique cases, the script can be adjusted to warn, kick, or ignore the user. Everything is done through mIRC dialogs which makes option selecting fairly easy. The lists are 100% adjustable, and there are options to disable any particular feature of the script. A lot of work could be done internally since much of the coding looks quite antiquated. Aside from that, the script is fairly solid and comes recommended. | ![]() date added 03/09/99 score 16/20 size 11.2kb downloads 2043 |

remoteChat v0.26b | |
This is a very unique script that uses sockets to open up a dcc partyline for use via telnet. While the script is well coded, I had some problems getting it to work with the default windows telnet client. Any text I sent did not show up and any text sent from another user did not show up as well. I believe these problems may be rectified with a different telnet client though. Another problem is that the script is very difficult to use. It has no popup menus, and even though you're given a dialog for the configuration at the start, you may have trouble getting it back after closing it. Everything is driven from a command line interface, so I found myself referring to the readme.txt file more times than necessary. If you've got the patience to figure this out and have a script/program that allows you to make proper connections to the server, feel free to give it a try. | ![]() date added 02/25/99 score 14/20 size 7.8kb downloads 726 |

Shah Mat 1.0 | |
This is a very feature-full chess script for mIRC 5.5. There is quite an array of options that allow you to customize your chess playing experience. For example, you have the option to change all of the interface colors including the chess table bitmap. It allows two players to play over IRC or on the same computer, but I'm guessing most people would prefer to play over the net. The controls are fairly easy to grasp, and the error checking is done quite well. There were quite a few errors in my status window after using the script, and I saw some clipping problems with the chat text while playing two players. Aside from these slight errors, this script comes highly recommended for any chess fans we may have out there. | ![]() date added 02/24/99 score 17/20 size 219.9kb downloads 1104 |

Nav-Script v2.1 | |
This is a helpful little script that enables easier navigation of file servers. It isn't for serving files, but for the end user who does the actual file browsing. You're given a listbox where the files are displayed as well as any directories. By double clicking on a file or directory, the script sends the appropriate commands to the file server. It has support for multiple file servers at one time and includes quite an extensive help section. It's done entirely with dialog boxes and makes good use of the feature. My only complaint is that the script does not work very well with a 640x480 resolution, so be sure you're running at least 800x600. If you frequently use file servers, this script is a must have. | ![]() date added 02/24/99 score 17/20 size 7.7kb downloads 2719 |

Add-On Oganizer v1.0 | |
This allows you to better organize your collection of scripts. After setting a script directory, you'll be given a listing of all your scripts and the option to load/unload any with the click of a button. It supports a proprietary format for script descriptions and looks for this information on each of your scripts. Since most (if any) scripts do not support this format, you'll find no real use for this feature. The ability to add your own description to a script might be nice, but it is not available. If you find the script editor too difficult to use to manage your scripts, this may be a good choice for you, but otherwise there is little point. | ![]() date added 02/24/99 score 15/20 size 5kb downloads 969 |

BanList Sweep | |
The idea behind this script leans on the side of originality, but the implementation could have been better done. The idea is that when your banlist fills up, you cannot add anymore bans. Rather than manually remove bans from the list so that you may add another, this script will do it for you. You can adjust what sort of bans should be removed (chanserv or server bans) and the number of bans to be removed. There is also an option to add protected bans so that even if they are issued by chanserv, the script will not remove them. The interface is very poorly done and options are controlled through popup selections. The script does it's job, but rather sloppily, right down to the colorful channel message that is sent each time the banlist is cleaned. | ![]() date added 02/09/99 score 10/20 size 4.1kb downloads 746 |

Wabbit's Poker v2.1 | |
This is a simple little poker script that acts very much like the hand-held versions sold in stores. You play against yourself and try to earn money by receiving good hands. You can adjust the amount of money you'd like to bet for a chance at more cash and since everything is graphical, the presentation is fairly nice. The only problem I found was the fact that it had to be extracted to your mIRC directory exactly as it is in the zip file, otherwise it will not work. If you're a poker fan and have plenty of time on your hands, this may be worth a shot, but the entertainment value isn't very high. | ![]() date added 02/09/99 size 112.4kb downloads 715 |

StatMan99 | |
This is a highly glorified channel statistics script that makes use of mIRC 5.5's dialog boxes to display information about a particular channel. It gives you information like the percentage of channel operators, users voiced, users away, etc. None of the information is very useful, but for those of you who are curious, it is available. There is also an option to open up a web server from your IP where users may see the statistics of your channel from the web. The HTML it generates isn't particularly pleasing to the eye, but it does get the information across. It's composed of a frame to display the current channel's conversation, a frame for the nicklist information and a frame for the channel topic. I don't see this features being more than just a novelty though. One small problem I had was that the dialog would keep reappearing after I have closed it. Also, you are limited to only displaying information for one channel at a time. These are only small gripes though. The script isn't very bad at all and does show some promising scripting techniques, but it's purpose is somewhat questionable. | ![]() date added 01/28/99 score 14/20 size 12.8kb downloads 1896 |

FTP Client v1.0 | |
This is a very polished FTP client script with a tidy interface and a large feature set. The interface consists of an option bar at the top with a file display to your right and various control buttons to the left. It features the ability to open multiple instances, keep bookmarked ftp sites, adjust local download directories and enable session logging. It seems to have no major bugs, but it did lack a couple helpful features. For one, the options for manipulating files on the ftp server were rather limited. There is no file view option for text files, no delete option and no way to jump to a specific directory among other things. Also, beginners may have trouble with this because it gives you no directions on how to begin and no popup selections were added to indicate that the script was properly loaded. While this is a well polished script, it does have some slight flaws that shouldn't have been overlooked. | ![]() date added 01/28/99 score 17/20 size 9.2kb downloads 1892 |

BORGscript v1.4.3 | |
I like to think of myself as a smart person.
Therefore, the fact that I couldn't get this script to run correctly doesn't bode well for
it. Startup and installation are... odd. The files come in .ini files, and you have to
manually load one rather than have a mirc.ini bundled with the script (which is often the
best thing). After getting it set up (the default configuration was apparently not
changed...), I actually couldn't figure out how to use the fileserving features (which is
basically what this script does). You need to manually refresh the list (should be done
automatically). Once I got THAT done, I realized that it would only work on the default
channel and with the default nick. Also, there's no way to tell which options are turned
on through the popup menus (dynamic popups are GOOD, people). The code is sloppy (/'s and
overused /goto's abound), it's hard to configure, the popups are nondescript and overdone
(hard to do that...), but on the plus side the help is pretty detailed. Basically, this
script needs a lot of improvement, but it works alright for what it is. Oh, and the word "anal" is used way too much in the help. - by KBT |

Addon Detection v2.1 | |
This script allows you to manage your loadable addons/scripts more conveniently. Basically, it displays any .mrc or .ini file in a given directory, default is /addons. A helpful feature is the option to modify which file types you want displayed. The interface is simple and is only composed of a listbox with popups from which you select different options. While this is a simple concept, I have quite a few gripes about this script. For one, the window refresh can freeze mIRC for any number of seconds depending on the number of scripts you have; the fact that it defaults to a 5 second refresh can cause some trouble. If you move the window and do not save the position, the window will move back to it's original spot upon refresh. One rather large problem I had with this was that when I changed the script directory to one that contains various script files, the unloaded files weren't displayed as they should have been. I had other problems as well, but none were very serious. This script is generally well written, and if you load and unload scripts quite commonly, it may come in handy. | ![]() date added 12/14/98 score 13/20 size 8.3kb downloads 530 |

Allstar Mp3 v1.0 | |
This is a feature rich Mp3 script with easy to use commands and a nice help section. This script's main function is to play a single Mp3 to either yourself or a channel. The songs from a particular directory are displayed in a listbox from which you may double click a song to play; my only gripe here is that the window closes once you've selected a song. It also features a simple 10 song playlist creator, an 'allfind' feature to list files following a search string you enter, a 'recent' window which shows the 10 recently played songs, and a rename feature which will replace a given character of each Mp3 file name in your song directory (this could be used for despacing). Oddly, this script was missing some sort of grab feature so users can request a song from you. Also, there is no way to stop the script from playing a song on a ctcp sound/mp3 request from another user. There are only slight flaws throughout the script, but it's quite solid. | ![]() date added 09/08/98 score 15/20 size 34.6kb downloads 822 |

away.mrc 2.0 | |
This is a very tidy away script with an easy to use graphical setting window. Upon loading the script, you have the option to establish which popups menu(s) the script will be accessible from: menubar, status window, channel window, nicklist or query window. The script includes basic message saving and paging features as well as auto away and anti-idle options. I had a slight problem with the time settings in the window showing up inproperly under certain cases, and the auto away feature did not seem to activate itself correctly. The message logging and anti-idle features work fine, and aside from the small errors, this script is well written and should be worth a try. | ![]() date added 09/08/98 score 15/20 size 6.3kb downloads 1217 |

Basic v2.3b | |
This script contains a very clean interface and abundant number of options. Just about every feature is configurable through an easy to use graphical interface. Each one features a similar display to make manipulating the script a simple task to learn. It's options include an Xdcc system, multiple channel configurations, an auto join system, a background selector with preview pane, an addon system for loading and unloading addon scripts, an email client and much more. The help system is very well designed and should ensure that even beginners may learn the ins and outs of this script. My only complaint is that the script tends to like darker background colors, and when changed to white, some text is difficult to read. A lot of effort was put into this script making it very well equipped, so be sure to give it a try. | ![]() date added 01/12/99 score 18/20 size 163.8kb downloads 3222 |

The Borg Script 1.09 | |
If I could only mention one feature of this script, it would have to be it's variety of action popup menus. While these aren't entirely bad to include in a script, we've got a problem when they are the script's most prominent feature. It has a small variety of features, but nothing out of the ordinary or especially well done. They include: auto-greetings, channel scans, basic sound support, some protection, and a few lesser features. This script has a slight Startrek theme, but it doesn't go far beyond the popup labels and auto-greet. Many features did not work correctly and some returned the error "Not implemented yet", so the script has a strong unfinished feeling to it. While this isn't for everybody, it does provide you with a wealth of popups, so dig in and start slapping. | ![]() date added 12/31/98 score 6/20 size 240.5kb downloads 981 |

cRaZiE SkrIpT v1.43 | |
This is a fairly mediocre script with a very limited number features and settings. It's features include a swear kick, an ad-ignore, a password feature to keep people from using your client, backwards talking, an auto join message, some sort of socket connection feature and an away pager. Most of these features where poorly written; for example, the socket connection portion was copied 3 times over with slight variable variations to allow you to open 3 different connections. The only thing that makes this script vary from the rest of it's kind is the fact that it includes a stone .bmp theme in the toolbar and windows. One slightly annoying feature is the fact that it will play one of the 7 included MIDI files randomly upon your connection to IRC; for those of you who do not know, you may type "/splay stop" to bring the musical performance to an end. For the most part, this is simply a personalized script with a couple features a casual IRC user may enjoy. It could use a great deal of work, but I'm sure some people may like it. | ![]() date added 09/08/98 score 6/20 size 104.3kb downloads 1434 |

crippled/01a | |
As the name suggests, this script is quite crippled. It has a very limited number of features, and none are done especially well. Most involve simple echos to your active window with popup-menu setting changes. It includes text theme support, but the popups to select your theme did not seem to work correctly; I had to manually unload and load the .theme files through the alias section. It seems to require a terminal font for displaying most text correctly, so this may be a bit of a turn-off to some. This script is well suited for addon scripts due to it's very tiny feature list. What you'll find here is only basic away/pager support, auto-join support, channel control tools, and some flood protection. The script has no help section, so beware to those who may require it. While it is very plain and easy to use, most users will be turned off by the script's lack of features and simple design. | ![]() date added 01/05/99 score 10/20 size 66.7kb downloads 352 |

DØwnLØad Pro. v1.0 | |
This script was an entry for the July, 1998, monthly challenge. You're given the alias "/dl" to download a file from either an ftp or http site. It only accepts URL's starting with http:// or ftp:// and will give you problems if you do not use one or the other. Another problem is that it only allows you to download one file at a time. There is an option to change which directory your downloaded files will go to and the download status is shown in the form of a blue bar in a tiny window, but beware of errors if you close this window while a download is in progress. The script checks to see if the file you are downloading already exists and asks if you would like to overwrite it, but an option to resume the file when possible is not available. I had a problem downloading some file types; they would come out corrupt after the downloader had completed the request. This script needs a little work, but it's not a bad effort. | ![]() date added 09/08/98 score 12/20 size 2.5kb downloads 431 |

Downloader.mrc | |
This script was an entry for the July, 1998, monthly challenge. It's designed to grab a file from either the http or ftp protocol and seems to work fairly well. After making your download request, a window showing the server information is displayed as well as a window showing the status of the file you are grabbing. While you may only download one file at a time, precautions were taken to avoid serious errors. If a file already exists in your $getdir, this script will automatically rename the file you download as to avoid problems. This script wasn't without it's share of problems though. I had some serious problems with the URL parser when multiple instances of the same word was used, and sometimes the ftp downloader seemed to "LIST" the file you requested rather than download it. This downloader works well for the most part, but be sure to take note of the problem with the URL parser. | ![]() date added 09/08/98 score 14/20 size 4.2kb downloads 597 |

dReåm v1.0 | |
This is largely a personal entertainment script with no particularly detailed features. In fact, some of the more advanced features include these simple games: Hangman, Spin the bottle, a slot machine and Russian Roulette. A great deal of the default server and text displays are changed and the script follows a somewhat cutesy theme. For example, the away toggle window displays a blue cloud background with the script's name "dReam" written at the top. This has a small variety of channel protection features, but the setting window did not show up properly. There were also some smaller features such as action popups, random color talkers, jokes and key-word counters. I found a few scripts that were not loaded up; these include: a perv kick, a notepad-type window, a caps kicker, and nick completion. While there are a small handful of problems, this script may appeal to some IRC users and should be worth a look. | ![]() date added 09/08/98 score 10/20 size 894.5kb downloads 2539 |

empeg[two] | |
This is a very user-unfriendly Mp3 script which is entirely driven by a command line interface. You run the script by using either the /mp3 (normal mp3 play) or the /pl (playlist) alias. No popups or graphical interface is included, so you'll need to memorize all the parameters for both of the two aliases. It has a variety of features and works quite well, but most mIRC users may not like it due to it's lack of controls. The script is well written and allows for random continuous play, playlist functionality, and wildcard Mp3 calls. The only major bug I found was with the continuous play option when I would sometimes receive timer errors for certain Mp3 files. With so many Mp3 scripts floating about, this one has some hefty competition; if an easier to use interface were included, I'd say it could fend very well for itself. | ![]() date added 12/28/98 score 15/20 size 4.8kb downloads 475 |

Gui Engine/Designer 2.7 | |
This is a rather innovative and somewhat useful script for creating graphical interfaces. It is different from other GUI generators due to the added ability to actually 'draw' a window and associate commands and variables on the fly. It gives you the option to draw buttons, checkboxes, radio buttons, labels, frames, etc. Not only can this be used to create script setting windows, but it has a great deal of potential for private use. One idea is that it could be used to create a personalized tray of buttons to run some of your commonly called aliases. While the idea can go a far way, the script has many problems that should be addressed. The windows it creates always appear as desktop windows with no easy way to do away with this burden. The windows always appear in the middle of your screen with no option to save a window's position. When you go to load/edit a window, you cannot browse a directory and must remember the name of the file you want to edit/load. There is no simple way to modify/erase an object once it has been drawn to the window. You cannot adjust window attributes such as the interface colors or text fonts. With these and a few more corrections, this script could be well worth your time and may be a welcome addition to any script library. | ![]() date added 09/08/98 score 15/20 size 142.1kb downloads 1012 |

i² v1.00 | |
This script is the perfect example of how a single, tiny .mrc file can be all that you'll ever need. It covers quite a spectrum of features and is wrapped up into a single 30k file. While it may look very plain, it does just as much, if not more, than the standard general script. Each feature is well detailed and can be configured easily through graphical windows. It's features include: Mp3, MIDI, Wav support, away/pager system, channel protection, user lists, an auto-join system, dynamic channel control, and options to change the look and feel of IRC. Each feature works quite well and shows a lot of attention to detail. The scripting is very well done and does not choke upon user error. My only complaint is that the F-key configuration can run into conflicts with your own. Since the script is exactly 30k and is cryptically written, you cannot modify the code very easily. For those seeking something simple, this script should prove to be an excellent choice. | ![]() date added 12/15/98 score 17/20 size 29.5kb downloads 5303 |

ID3it! v1.2 | |
This script performs the single function of Id3 tag editing for Mp3 files. While this feature is already provided by some of the more popular Mp3 players such as winamp, this may be handy for quicker editing of the Id3 tags. For those of you who do not know, an Id3 tag is a piece of data attached to an Mp3 file containing information such as the song name, artist, genre of music, album name and year. The script visually copies winamp's implementation of the Id3 tag editor as well as it can, even going as far as to use the windows dialog box colors. One problem I found was that the ID3 tag remover did not seem to work correctly; I'd receive some sort of error in my status window each time I pressed the button. While this script does it's job, it isn't the most refined piece of work. I'd recommend it to anybody curious about how the ID3 info is stored in an MP3 file, but otherwise, you may just want to stick to winamp. | ![]() date added 12/21/98 score 16/20 size 6.6kb downloads 403 |

IDTScript v0.08 | |
This script comes from the days of mIRC 5.02 when colors reigned and @Windows were used for nothing more than channel scans. While just about every feature could have been done nearly two years ago, this script does show slight signs of modernity. There is an attempt at theme support, but it does nothing more than change a couple raw events and 2 or 3 normal events. It's features are somewhat thin; they include: minimal Mp3 support, a basic away system, "lamer ignore", channel scans and an unusually extensive spell correction system. It has a variety of bugs; among those is a large bug that fills your status window with errors as the lag check is running. This script isn't as bad as it's appearance may lead you to believe though. The settings are saved to file and the variables are fairly well organized, but without a redesign, I can't see many people using this unless they're looking to jump on the retro-wagon. | ![]() date added 12/22/98 score 8/20 size 186.7kb downloads 509 |

Infinate Nickserv | |
This is a somewhat original Nickserv management script. It goes beyond the past standard of sending nickserv commands through the popup menus and provides you with a nickserv interaction window. The window acts as a query window with nickserv, but you have each nickserv command available in a listbox. This lets you save the nicknames and passwords to 9 different nicknames and has an option to automatically identify yourself when necessary. There are some slight problems here, but the basics of the script work well. First off, instead of sending the /nickserv command to the server, this script uses a /msg. While this is ok, Dalnet prefers that you use the /nickserv command. On that note, I'd like to point out that this will only work on Dalnet. That could be a problem for those of you wishing to use this for the nickserv bot on other smaller networks. I had a serious problem with the nick manager list: When I called for the list of names in the database, the script locked up into an infinite loop. Aside from those problems, the script is well written and shows some promise. | ![]() date added 09/08/98 score 14/20 size 114.5kb downloads 652 |
